Supersport - Spectacular start of San Carlo Team Italia at the MotorLand Aragón

In the first two sessions of free practice Axel Bassani is 1st in the FIM Europe Supersport Cup and 2nd overall in World Championship, Alessandro Zaccone is 5th and 2nd

The new challenge of San Carlo Team Italia, the FIM Europe Supersport Cup, (a new category included in World Championship to replace the Superstock 600 European championship) starts with positive results and with impressive performances during the inaugural day of activity ad the MotorLand Aragón of Alcañiz. Axel Bassani and Alessandro Zaccone have finished respectively 1st and 2nd in the European standings but they also got great positions in the World Championship standings: 2nd overall for Axel and 5th for Alessandro.

A performance that underlines the potential of the team and the two young riders, both born in 1999, who have immediately reached good positions in the Supersport World championship, really close to some riders with a lot of experience in the class. 13th overall in the FP1, Axel Bassani in the afternoon session got the 2nd time in 1'55"406 in the WSS standings, with only Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta, 1'55"324) to precede him.

Great result also for Alessandro Zaccone, 5th overall in 1'55"673 and 2nd in FIM Europe Supersport Cup, completing the double of San Carlo Team Italia. Thanks to these positions, both the riders have qualified directly for the Superpole-2 that will determine the starting grid of the race scheduled on Sunday at 11:20.

Axel Bassani (San Carlo Team Italia - Kawasaki ZX-6R #47) 1'55"406, 1° ESS & 2° WSS
"Before this weekend, I hoped to be in the first 10, so I am more than surprised to be in second place! Reading my name in the standings together with riders with experience such as Sofuoglu, Cluzel and Krummenacher makes me proud and it's a great satisfaction. But of course the continuation of the week is what I care and especially the race. We are almost fine with the set-up: in terms of pace we did some mini long run of 7-8 laps with constant time that make us confident. Tomorrow we will try to perfect the set-up further in the third session, and then give our best in Superpole!"

Alessandro Zaccone (San Carlo Team Italia - Kawasaki ZX-6R #61) 1'55"673, 2° ESS & 5° WSS

"As first official day of a race weekend, it was a perfect debut. I hadn't ridden a lot in the tests, but today everything went well in terms of performance, feeling on the bike and work done. We have focused on finding the best set-up for the race, with positive results in the tyre management. We have to perfect some little aspects to be better in the distance, but we started well and this is important in order to carry on this way. Tomorrow we will try to understand which tyre is better for the Superpole, without ignoring the main goal that is to do well in race and in the European standings."

Cristiano Migliorati (San Carlo Team Italia - Team Manager)

"We are really satisfied and surprised with this result, which was a little bit unexpected. We know the potential of our two riders, but being already near the top together with the protagonists of World Championship is a big injection of confidence. We keep our feet on the ground and we won't ignore our main goal: we race for the European championship standings, not for the World standings. Axel and Alessandro have worked really well and we'll continue this way tomorrow, trying to optimise the few time that we have: in the 15 minutes of FP3 we will focus again on the race, while in Superpole-2 we will try the time attack. Anyway what is really important is to get some points for the European standings."

Stefano Cruciani (San Carlo Team Italia - Sport Manager)

"I had seen the potential of our riders already in the first tests, but of course it's a surprise for us to be so close to the top with both our riders. It's just the first day of practice and, usually the riders of World Championship do a different work on Friday, but we have a similar method too. Our work is to do well in race and the fact that Bassani and Zaccone used few tyres to do some mini long-run in view of the race, proves it. We are confident and realistic about the result: we are here to learn, to improve and make experience also in World Championship, giving to our riders the possibility to show off. They have succeeded today and they have paid attention to every single indications of set-up and riding style: even if they very young, I can assure that they ride with the right attitude and with a professional method of work, necessary to improve and to win."
