CZECH GP - The Openbank Aspar Team prepares for three hectic weeksin central Europe

Aron Canet arrives in Brno in fourth place in his Moto2 debut season, while teammate Hafizh Syahrin hopes to recover from the Jerez DNF

The most special Motorcycling World Championship in recent years deals this August in the center of Europe with the first of the three triple-headers that the calendar of the 2020 season has brought with itself. The Brno circuit and the Red Bull Ring, in two occasions, will host the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds of the Moto2 category, led by Tetsuta Nagashima. The Japanese rider lost his advantage at the top of the standings after the race in Jerez: from a 17-points lead to just 2. The only thing that remains the same is the nationality of his pursuers: before, it was Lorenzo Baldassarri in second, now it’s the Andalucía GP winner Enea Bastianini, with Luca Marini in third. Both Bastianini and Marini already know what it is to get on the podium of the Czech circuit, something that to date has not been achieved by the Japanese, who is facing his best season in the World Championship and will want to take advantage of his state of form in these three races.

In the fourth position in the general standings, twenty points behind the leader, is the Openbank Aspar Team rider Aron Canet. The Valencian is surprising in his debut in the category and has shown himself as one of the most regular riders and the only one who has always finished in the top eight in the three races held to date. Canet has finished on the podium in the last three Grand Prix races in Brno: he was third in 2017, second in 2018 and winner in 2019, always in the Moto3 category. This year he has impressed with his quick adaptation to the Speed Up bike and this weekend he aspires to remain among the best. At his side, Hafizh Syahrin will seek to make up for the DNF at Andalucía, where he had started a comeback from the twenty-second position that led him to fight for the points. The pending subject for the Malaysian rider is the qualifying practice, since in the last races he has shown a great race pace that he has not been able to take full advantage of when starting from behind.

Aron Canet: “This week I have returned to my daily routine and I have enjoyed the stay at home, but it has been short. Anyway, I don't dislike it, we've already been locked up at home for four months and now I want races. We start the first of three GPs in a row in Europe, one in the Czech Republic and two in Austria. I love Brno, I have been on the podium for the last three years and last year I won, it will be nice to go back there. We will try to aim for the top and make the fans that will be watching us from home enjoy.”

Hafizh Syahrin: “We are back to the races and these ones will be tough, because they are three in a row. I arrive with confidence; I have been working hard in Spain after the Jerez race. I want to get back on the bike and give my best. In addition, we know where we have to improve, especially in qualifying practice, to be able to start from the front, because we are doing well in the race. I hope we have a good weekend; it will be a good way to start the triple-header."
