It was another hard weekend for the Ruby
Racing team and their rider Josh Day at round two of the Motorpoint British
Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch Indy. Josh racing a Triumph in the Evo
class secured eighth Evo rider in the Sprint race on Saturday and seventh in the
main feature race on Sunday.
The team suffered a number of mechanical
problems on Friday and they were unable to complete any laps during the practice
sessions. The team worked hard overnight to fix the engine but the first time
Josh was able to get out on track was for qualifying. He had to find a good set
up on the Triumph and put in a quick time all in one session.
This put Josh in 25th place
on the grid for the opening race Saturday afternoon, knowing he had to work hard
and still recovering from fractured vertebrae, Josh had to knuckle down and work
his way through the pack. He got a good start and was making passes through the
field, his lap times were consistent and he was able to managed eighth place in
the Evo series.
He dropped back a place for race two to
26th and once again he knew he had to work hard to get the Ruby
Racing Triumph further up the rankings. He managed to get through to
15th in the overall main Championship scoring a Championship point in
the process but also to seventh in the Evo Championship, he is now lying in
eighth in the overall Evo series.
Josh Day - "We really have had a lot of bad luck
in the first two rounds of the Championship, I was suffering at Donington with
the back pain and then found out about my injuries.
We were looking for a strong weekend at
Brands as I rode well there at the final round last season. The weekend started
badly when we had an engine blow Friday morning, we changed an engine then
suffered an oil leak in the second session so Friday was a bad day.
The guys worked really hard Friday night
to allow me to get out on track for qualifying, we had to find a set-up quickly
and at least put in a few quick laps. It was always going to be tough from that
far back on the grid in the races but I did work hard and make as many passes as
was safe to do so. It's difficult round Brands Hatch as the laps are so short
and there aren't many decent passing places around there.
I really hope things will take a turn
for the better at the next round at Oulton Park in a couple of weeks' time. I
want to thank the Ruby Racing team for all the hard work they put in this
weekend and I hope I can get them some decent results from now on."
