British trio go for gold at Silverstone Moto 2 & 3

xt weekend around 60 of the world’s up and coming bike racers will head to Silverstone in Northamptonshire for the British round of the FIM Moto2 and Moto3 world championships. Going into the British round, three Britons in particular are targeting home victory.
Sam Lowes heads to the former wartime airfield lying third in Moto2 aboard his Federal Oil Gresini Kalex. The 26 year-old Lincoln rider has already taken race victory this season, and has ten career podium finishes to his credit, along with a ride in the top class MotoGP in 2017 in his pocket.

Reigning Moto3 champion Danny Kent took the Moto3 race victory here last year on his way to the crown. The Chippenham racer returned to Moto2 in 2016 riding the Leopard Racing Kalex. Although not a race winner in 2016, the 23 year-old looks to add to his total of eight race victories and 14 podium finishes next weekend.

Completing the home entry is Scot John McPhee. The Peugeot MC Saxoprint racer comes straight from a resounding maiden Moto3 victory in the last round at Brno, in the Czech Republic. Starting from 11th the torrential rain did nothing to dampen his enthusiasm on his way to a nine second advantage.

Dunlop is proud of its success in open tyre competition which enables riders in one-brand championships such as Moto2 and Moto3 to compete on tyres developed from world championship level competition. The high-profile Moto2 and Moto3 championships have been Dunlop one-brand from their inception in 2010 and 2012 respectively, where collectively the 60 riders will compete on eight different chassis.

Here Dunlop produces a tyre that will cope with a variety of conditions producing the same level of performance across different bike manufacturers. Across 18 rounds of Moto2&3, the tyres need to have a very wide operating window to cope with the conditions across the whole championship, from the potential cold of Silverstone next weekend, to the heat of the opening round in Qatar.

Learning and developing from the vast array of motorsport championships that it supports around the globe, Dunlop combines all its learnings to build a vast bank of knowledge and cross-pollinate technologies from different tyres of vehicles and championships.

Dunlop actively competes to develop tyres, and its participation in iconic road races such as the Isle of Man TT, the FIM Endurance World Championship, and World MX GP all help to develop motorcycle tyre technology.  Every season, they push to develop new constructions, compounds and materials to go that little bit faster for longer than before.
