Joe Collier, racing on the
Tsingtao MV Agusta had a troublesome weekend at the opening round of the Dickies
British Supersport Championship at Silverstone Circuit this weekend. The opening
Sprint race was cancelled due to poor weather conditions and sadly Joe was
unfortunate to have a technical problem on the MV Agusta in the second race of
the weekend.
Joe has been struggling to get to
grips with his new bike for this season and has made the switch from the Triumph
last year. The reigning Supersport Evo Champion has slowly been making progress
with the MV Agusta and his team have been working hard to push things
forward.
They have made progress
throughout the weekend and Joe has always been confident when it comes to race
conditions. He pushed hard through qualifying and was scheduled to start race
one from 15th place on the grid. The opening Sprint race never really
got off the ground, as they were lining up on the grid the skies became darker.
Joe had a steady start to the
race but the safety car was deployed on the second lap after some of the leaders
crashed out. The car came back in the pits at the end of lap three but the race
was soon red flagged due to heavy rainfall. After a mad dash into the pits to
change tyres they all lined up on the grid again and the race was re-started. A
number of crashes forced the race to be red-flagged again and cancelled due to
track contamination.
Joe lined up in 12th
position on the grid for race two due to the absence of some injured riders from
Saturday. He got a good start and was up to 11th at the end of lap
one but sadly the race was short lived for him when his bike had a technical
problem on lap two forcing him out of the race and having to leave Silverstone
with no Championship points under his belt.
Joe Collier - "I'm so dis-heartened after
this weekend at Silverstone. We really were hampered with the weather and track
conditions and we did not have as much time out on the track as we had hoped for
so we were always a little on the back foot. We missed the session on Friday
morning due to oil on the track and then the first race was cancelled due to the
weather and the track conditions. It was a shame really as we did make some good
progress through the weekend and I was happier with the way things were
beginning to go in the right direction.
I hope we can maybe get out and
have a test before Oulton and try some new things on the bike to try and push
things forward. I want two solid results at Oulton, it is one of my favourite
tracks and hopefully we can get on the score board there."
