Joe Collier
racing on the Haribo Starmix Triumph had a stunning weekend at Donington Park,
round one of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship. The 20-year-old
from Coalville had two fantastic race results with two wins in the British
Supersport Evo races.
Joe worked
hard throughout the weekend to get a good set up on the Triumph for qualifying
and ended up in eighth place on the grid and fastest Evo bike. He was keen to
get going in race one and after a tough start and dropping back to
11th the safety car was deployed on lap three and the race was then
red flagged.
On the
restart he struggled again off the start and dropped back to third Evo rider,
with only six laps he had to push hard to get back through the pack. By lap four
he was fastest Evo rider and seventh overall. After burning out the clutch on
the start he had to nurse the Triumph home taking his first fantastic Supersport
Evo win and seventh in the main championship.
Joe started
from eighth place again for race two and he was eager to secure another win in
the Evo class, he dominated that Championship and led the Evo race from start to
finish. This year the Evo grid is supporting 23 riders in the field so it was a
very competitive class. Joe got a steady start and was battling with some of the
factory bikes for a time. He finished ninth overall and took another solid
win.
Joe
Collier - "I'm really pleased with the races this weekend, we had to iron
out a few problems on day one but my team worked really hard for me to ensure
that I had two good races. I haven't ridden a Triumph in racing for a year now
and I burnt the clutch on the start so I was missing gears and everything in
race one and had to nurse her home. Race two everything was much better and even
though I finished in a lower place to Sunday I felt much more comfortable with
the set-up of my Triumph. I am really looking forward to the rest of the season,
thanks to all my sponsors that have helped me for this season it is much
appreciated."
