06.04.2019 – Team Pedercini Racing by Global
Service Solutions rider Jordi Torres took part in his first home race of the
2019 season from ninth place on the starting grid. The experienced 31-year-old
rider finished up inside the top ten after a tough three-way battle on the last
laps.
Day one on Friday was a challenge in some ways
for the Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions squad but in Superpole
today set-up improvements allowed Jordi to go ninth fastest of the 18 riders on
show. He was the top Kawasaki rider at this point, one place ahead of four-times
world champion Jonathan Rea.
His Superpole pace gave him a third row grid
start, a position he held in the race until lap 12. At that point the official
Kawasaki of Leon Haslam passed him, and then one more rival got ahead of him as
the final few laps counted down.
Unable to push as he had done in the earlier
laps once his rear tyre traction had dropped a little, Jordi had to fight hard
to take his final tenth place finish. This equalled his season best since he
joined Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions in the off-season.
There are two races remaining for Jordi at
Motorland Aragon, the ten lap ‘Tissot Superpole Race’ and then a final 18-lap
full distance competition for full points.
The entire paddock will then pack up and head to the next venue, at Assen in the Netherlands, for the fourth round of the season next weekend.

In Superpole for the WorldSSP riders Ayrton
Badovini (Team Pedercini Racing by Global Service Solutions) was 11th. His new
team-mate Kyle Smith finished up 13th on the grid after a dry day of track
action on Saturday. Ayrton and Kyle now face a 16-lap race on Sunday, around the
challenging 5.077km long Motorland Aragon circuit in northern Spain.

“We are happy to have improved a lot today over one fast lap. Normally we do not do a lot of tests with a qualifying tyre but the whole team did well with the suspension and chassis. During the race I tried to get with the group in front – Cortese, Melandri, etc, but they usually made half a second to 0.7 seconds on me. Sometimes they came towards me and I always tried to push and push to get with them but I did not quite get there. In the last five laps I had less tyre than Toprak Razgatlioglu and Leon Haslam, although I do not think we chose the wrong tyre option. There was tyre drop off for everybody, but we still had a good fight in the last four laps. I lost that battle but maybe tomorrow that will change!”

In the race I was happy to take another top ten finish, and for sure a potential eighth place at his home circuit was very close for Jordi. He had a good battle with two riders near to the end and finished quite close behind them. Tomorrow we have one short race and a final full distance race, and we will be trying to have our best results of the year in each of them.”
