Marc Márquez stopped the clock in FP2 at 1:39.778, over a second quicker than in FP1 and almost 2 seconds faster than in 2016.
Dani Pedrosa, who placed nineteenth in the first practice session, improved by almost 1.5 seconds in the afternoon run.
Márquez crashed at the start of FP1 at Turn 2, whilst Pedrosa fell at the penultimate corner 15 minutes from the end of FP2.
For safety reasons, the riders were obliged to put in a minimum of 5 consecutive laps with the hardest rear tyre brought by Michelin, in either FP1 or FP2.
