Joe Collier has taken on a new
challenge this year and has moved from the Dickies British Supersport
Championship to the Ducati Performance Tri Options Championship with the BPS
Racing team. It has been a last minute deal but Joe settled in well and took a
double victory at the first round of the MCE British Superbike Championship
round at Donington Park.
Joe was strong from the start on
the Ducati 959 machines and despite lack of testing he was able to qualify in
fifth place for race one. He got a great start and led from lap one, however,
the race was tragically cut short and declared after five laps and the riders
were awarded half Championship points.
Joe started from pole position
for race two on Sunday, he got a bad start and dropped back to sixth after the
opening lap. Joe had to work hard to re-group and work his way back up through
the pack, by lap six he was back in the lead after making a pass on Sean Neary,
the pair continued to battle until the flag was shown with Joe taking a stunning
double victory from Neary. Neary was later excluded from the result after a
post-race technical examination.
Joe Collier - "Firstly I would like to send
my thoughts and condolenses to the friends and family of Mick (Whalley) and
dedicate my wins to him.
The weekend has had many ups and
downs but it has been relatively good overall. It has been a strong first
weekend for the Boast Plumbing (Moto Rapido) Ducati team and we have learnt a
lot about the bike and how it works.
My first time riding the bike in
the dry was on Friday so we had a lot to learn and change to get things right
for me. The team worked really hard over the weekend to get everything feeling
comfortable. I am looking forward to Brands and making the Ducati feel a little
more like my own.
Thank you to all my personal
sponsors for once again making it possible for me to be here
racing."
