Rain and wind cut
short the Qatar test for the Moto3 class, who have only been able to complete
four of the nine sessions scheduled for this weekend. The next time we see the
bikes on track will be for the first free practice of the Grand Prix of Qatar.
Until then, Romano Fenati will arrive with the confidence of having achieved the
best lap over the three days of tests. The Italian, like the rest of the riders
on the grid, set his best lap yesterday, as the wind and rain today have
prevented any hint of improvement. Completing the top three are two Spaniards,
Jorge Martín and Aron Canet, followed closely by Gabriel Rodrigo, Livio Loi and
Nicolo Bulega. The Moto3 riders now have three days off before returning to the
track next Thursday, March 23, at 18:00 local time (16:00 in Europe).
The Mahindra
Pull&Bear Aspar team has been able to add a combined 43 laps between its two
riders to the final tally of this last test session in Qatar. The day was
hindered by rain and wind, which slowed the pace for all riders. The quickest
man in Mahindra Pull & Bear Aspar colours was Albert Arenas (2'09.609). The
Spaniard has completed the Qatar test with a best time of 2'07.883, achieved
yesterday, after a total of 72 laps between the three days. Arenas has made the
most of the little track time available and has cited some areas for improvement
before next Sunday's race. Meanwhile, Dalla Porta set a time of 2'10.231,
somewhat slower than his best here in Qatar (2'07.883 yesterday), but has had
time to correct some details of his riding that will allow him to continue
progressing in the first round of the season.
17th Albert Arenas 2: 09.609 (19
laps): “It was a complicated test, we were able to do very
little because of the track conditions, but we still tried to get on track for
as long as possible, and this has helped me to continue learning the circuit. I
have the line clear, but some points need work. It is my first time here and I
want to see myself up there, but little by little if we continue working like
this we will arrive.”
23rd Lorenzo Dalla Porta 2: 10.231
(24 laps): “It was a difficult day because of the wind. In the
end we could only ride in one of the sessions and do some laps at the end before
the rain came. The lap time was very slow, one or two seconds more than normal
due to the wind. Today I improved some things in my riding, I could have done
with a slipstream but it does not matter.”
