Josh Wainwright and the Lloyd & Jones PR Racing BMW made some progress at round nine of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park this weekend. Josh had a problem in the opening race and was forced to retire but he gained a 24th and 23rd place in the other two races.
Josh
missed the first round at Oulton Park after he joined the PR Racing team later
in the season so the team had no data to work with for this race weekend. It was
always going to be challenging as the circuit is very demanding but the times
were very close throughout the weekend.
Josh
qualified 30th on the grid for the race on Saturday, he got off the
start and was settling in well but his lap times were suffering. At half
distance Josh was forced to retire as he lost third gear on the BMW and was
unable to continue.
For
race two on Sunday, Josh started from 31st place. He made some places
up on the first lap and continued to push hard but this sadly affected the tyre
wear which also led to Josh suffering from arm pump. He continued to do what he
could to finish in 24th place.
Josh
moved up the grid to 26th for the final race of the weekend and this
was the biggest chance he had to get involved with other riders and have a bit
of a battle. He made some good progress and his times were consistent, he was
able to finish in 23rd place.
Josh
Wainwright - "Every
time we come racing it is always a little bit of a challenge as we are really
lacking in any data at each circuit.
Race
one didn't feel right from the start and on lap nine I knew I had to pull into
the pits as I wasn't able to select third gear.
The
team worked hard until late to get everything fixed for Sunday. I pushed hard
during both races and we just seem to be struggling with pace on other riders.
There is no rest around Oulton on a Superbike and my arm-pump set-in as I was
trying so hard to get a result.
Race
two was a little better, I felt faster in race two but it was another tough
weekend. It is frustrating as I want to be locked in a battle with people and
make some moves, hopefully we might be in the ball park at
Donington."
