Meanwhile, Xavi Vierge took some positive first steps as he made his inaugural appearance at the meandering Circuit of The Americas. The young Spaniard opened proceedings by learning the track and gaining experience in the beginning shakedown. Then in free practice 2, Vierge continued his work with the Tech3 Racing Team as he adjusted the setup of his Mistral 610 and tirelessly completed 16 laps. The former CEV race winner will seek to progress further tomorrow ahead of clinching a positive grid position for the 19 lap sprint on Sunday..
Isaac Viñales
“It was a good opening day to the Grand Prix of
The Americas for me and I am satisfied with what we accomplished. As soon as the
wheels started turning, we got the ball rolling and made some good progress.
Even though there is still a margin of improvement that we can achieve with the
setup of the bike, the Tech3 team did a good job today and we have a solid plan,
so now we need to continue moving in the same direction. If we do this, then we
can clinch a strong grid position for the race in Texas, which will be my third
Moto2 Grand Prix."
Xavi Vierge
Position : 27th - Time : 2'12.679 - Laps : 33
“I am happy to begin in Austin, which is another
new venue for me, but we have some work to do so that we can advance more. Today
we changed a lot of settings on my Mistral 610 and unfortunately we didn’t make
a huge step forward, but the most important thing is to stay positive and I
believe in my team. Tomorrow, I will continue to learn the track, improve my
riding style and also set the bike up for the race. So I am excited about
getting back out on the Circuit of The Americas and thanks to the Tech3 guys for
their efforts today.”
