Xavi Cardelús and Jake Dixon both ready to give 100% at
an unknown track for both
After the opening night of the MotoGP World Championship
in Qatar, the season continues to
heat up this weekend with the second round of
the season and the first of two on American soil.
The Autódromo de Termas de
Río Hondo circuit in Argentina is the venue for an event that last
year saw
Mattia Pasini take victory in Moto2, with his compatriot Lorenzo Baldasarri
narrowly missing out on the podium. Baldasarri – the new championship leader
following
his victory at Losail – will this time target victory as he defends
his points advantage under
threat from the likes of Thomas Luthi, Marcel
Schrotter and Remy Gardner.
The Gran Premio de la República Argentina is the next
challenge for the renewed Sama Qatar
Ángel Nieto Team on their return to the
intermediate category. The team contested the first
ever Moto2 race at Autódromo
de Termas de Río Hondo with Nico Terol and Jordi Torres
return in 2019 with
Andorra’s Xavi Cardelús and British rider Jake Dixon preparing to ride at
this
track for the very first time. The opening free practice sessions on Friday will
be crucial for
the pair to learn the layout as quickly as possible and to get
maximum performance out of their
KTM machines.
Xavi Cardelús: “The Autódromo de Termas de Río Hondo is a circuit I am
really looking forward
to going to because I have not raced there before. From
what I have been able to tell from past
races there and the video game it seems
like a relatively easy track to learn although there are two
or three sections
where it is easy to lose a lot of time. We will have to give 100% from the first
moment and I have been training hard to make sure I am where I need to be. I am
excited to get
back on the bike again and giving full gas.”
Jake Dixon: “We travel to Argentina with the sole aim of continuing
to improve and with our heads
high after the first race. I don’t think it will
be a hard circuit to learn, I have watched videos and
done a lot of laps on the games console. I know that when we find the right set-up for the bike I
will be
fast, but right now I can’t show my full potential. We are still adapting to the
bike and
how it behaves but I have a great team behind me and together we will
get there.”
